I'm just like you, I can be skeptical about things that appear to have all the answers but I really don't know if they will deliver, plus, I also don't like to wildly spend money when I have no guarantee of return. But with coaching, and like most things... you will get a return but only if you do the work.
Coaching is like having someone who "has your back" and "tells you the truth" all rolled into one. They pull out what was already there and show it to you and you wonder why you didn't see it all along. Good coaches care about you getting there cause that is how they often define success.
Like most things, coaching requires effort... from both parties. If you get a coach, thinking that they do all the work... then your probably on the wrong path. Like the fitness trainer... they are there to give you the exercises, talk to you about how to move your body but you have to be the one to do it. Coaching is fantastic for those who really want to improve, change, and modify the approach to situations. Coaching may also help you understand why you may do or not do some of the things you do.
Some people, have had the luxury of having a mentor or coach with whom they work, usually a manager who they reported to who took a shine to them, they have imparted some knowledge and helped you on your way and you take all the lessons learnt and skills they have taught and progress and develop yourself.
However not every manager is a great manager nor has the skills to coach. This is where professional Coaches can support. Also there are many coaches that specialise in particular areas, you may need a coach for a short specific period or topic, or a coach for a long term and the connection you have with your coach is essential!
What ever your reason for needing a coach.. is coaching worth the money... YES!
But... you have to be prepared to do the work to make it happen!
